Learning to Understand God

1st John 2: 11
But he that hateth his brother is in darkness and walketh in darkness and knoweth not whether he goeth because the darkness has blinded him.

Love is what we should feel for our brothers and sisters and this love should manifest or make itself known through acts of kindness that we do for each other. When love is manifested in us, we are walking in the light and are displaying the characteristics of God because God is light.

1st John 1: 5b
God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

Darkness on the other hand, is the opposite of light and goes against all that God expects of us.  In fact, when you’re in darkness, you are living outside of God’s plan for your life and you don’t even know it because the darkness has blinded you. If you are physically blind, you cannot see anything in your natural environment. It’s the same if you are spiritually blind – you cannot see or discern the things of God.

Many people claim to know the Lord as their personal Saviour but they are not displaying the characteristics of the Lord in their lives. They are not bearing the fruit of the Spirit. Instead, they are manifesting the works of the flesh. The sad part is that they really believe that they are walking in the light, but the word of God says that we will know them by their fruit.

Matthew 12: 33b (Jesus is speaking)
…for the tree is known by its fruit

The Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5: 22-23)
(22) Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
(23) meekness, temperance

The Works of the Flesh (Galatians 5: 19-21)
(19) Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
(20) Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies
(21) envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings

Observation

No one knows you better than you know yourself.  Examine yourself according to the Word of God to be certain that you are walking in the light and not in the darkness.

  2nd Corinthians 13: 5 (NIV)
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you – unless of course you fail the test?

If you have not yet accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, why not choose to do it right now?

A Prayer to Receive Salvation

Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that Your Son Jesus Christ died for my sins. I ask Your forgiveness of my sins and accept Your Son into my life as my personal Lord and Saviour. I believe that You raised Him from the dead and because of this; I know that I can live a victorious new life in Christ. Thank You for my salvation.

Now complete the process of salvation by being baptized.

Acts 2: 38
..Repent and be baptized … in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins….
