Learning to Understand God

1st John 3: 21
Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

When you are showing acts of kindness towards others, your conscience will let you know if you are sincere in your actions or not. If your conscience lets you know that what you are doing is with a right motive, then you can have confidence in your action and in your relationship with God.

1st John 3: 22
And whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

Once your conscience lets you know that the motive behind your action is right, whatever you ask God for in accordance to His will, you will receive from Him.

Right attitude behind our actions, keeping the commandments of God and doing the things that are pleasing in His sight, all add up to right motives.

1st John 3: 23
And this is His commandment, that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another as He gave us commandment.

To believe on the Lord Jesus Christ is to follow His teachings as outlined in the word of God and to love one another - not by our words, but by our actions.

1st John 3: 24
And he that keepeth His commandments dwelleth in Him and He in him. And hereby we know that He abideth in us, by the Spirit which He hath given us.

When we live in obedience to the commandments of God by following His teachings as outlined in His word, He actually lives in us and we live in Him and His Holy Spirit confirms in our hearts that He is indeed living in us.

Observation

Many people say that they believe in God, but their lifestyles show that while they believe in the existence of God, they don’t follow the teachings of God.

You cannot believe in that which you do not understand. If you claim to believe in God, study His word so that you can truly understand who He is and live according to His teachings.

A Prayer to Receive Salvation

Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that Your Son Jesus Christ died for my sins. I ask Your forgiveness of my sins and accept Your Son into my life as my personal Lord and Saviour. I believe that You raised Him from the dead and because of this, I know that I can live a victorious new life in Christ. Thank You for my salvation.

Now complete the process of salvation by being baptized.

Acts 2: 38
...
Repent and be baptized … in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins….
