Learning to Understand God

1st John 3:4
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

What is the law of man?
The law of man is all of the rules of conduct established and enforced by the authority of a given community or group. (Webster)

What is the law of God?
The law of God is the Ten Commandments which God spoke upon Mount Sinai in the hearing of all the people of Israel (Exodus 20: 1- 18) and which He later wrote with His own finger on two tables of stone, for an everlasting memorial.  The fact that these laws were written for an everlasting memorial means that these laws are to continue forever.

Jesus Gives Us the Ten Commandments in a Nutshell
The Ten Commandments are divided into two parts. The fist four commandments deal with our relationship with God and the last six commandments deal with our relationship with each other.

In Mark 27; 28- 31, a scribe asked Jesus about the commandments. Jesus summed up the Ten Commandments into two commandments, the first one dealing with our relationship to God and the second one dealing with our relationship to each other.

1)     Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy mind and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
2)     Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

If we abide by the two commandments Jesus gave in the New Testament, we will actually be living according to the Ten Commandments that God gave in the Old Testament. By doing this, we will be living according to the will of God.

Observation

The law of the land directs us socially. If we are not law abiding citizens, we are taken out of society and set apart with the other citizens who choose not to abide by the law of the land. It is the same with God. He has established laws for us to live by and if we choose not to abide by His laws, when Christ returns to establish His Kingdom upon the earth, we will not be allowed to enter His kingdom. It’s as simple as that.

If you don’t know the laws of God’s Kingdom, why not begin to learn and live them today?

A Prayer to Receive Salvation

Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that Your Son Jesus Christ died for my sins. I ask Your forgiveness of my sins and accept Your Son into my life as my personal Lord and Saviour. I believe that You raised Him from the dead and because of this, I know that I can live a victorious new life in Christ. Thank You for my salvation.

Now complete the process of salvation by being baptized.

Acts 2: 38
...
Repent and be baptized … in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins….
